The only case that we have an update on is the Orange County Case. The fate if this case was determined in a Pre-Trial Diversion. All of the evidence, which included local vet reports, state vet reports, pictures, witnesses and video tapes, was completely suppressed, and the owner’ animals returned.. Probation for a year was all this owner got. It was not enough. All attempts to educate and offer assistance were ignored by the owner, and in the end his animals were found to be worse than when IHAHS first learned of this case. All foster homes to date had returned the horses via court order. Many are pursuing civil cases against the owner or the court, which did not provide for reimbursement of care. The state vet report recommended permanent removal of these animals. The Horse club in which they were registered has published the results of their hearing. Which includes up to $6,000.00 in fines and suspension of the owner. I want to thank everyone who participated in this rescue. Everybody worked so hard to help these animals.
It is not often that IHAHS has had to return any animals, this is the first time in years, but every once in a while we do run into a prosecutor who states " I just wanted to teach him a lesson, that he could lose his horses" " I did not really want to put this guy in jail or permanently remove the animals" Well we can only say, it was a different story when we were asked how soon we could pick them up. |
